PURLY GIRLS

Hello Again!

Posted by: purlygirls on: June 7, 2009

Wow!  It’s been over a year since I’ve blogged and probably since I even came on this site.  I’m thinking that it’s because I bought a MacBook (which I absolutely love!) in March and was busy playing with it and my new iPod.  I’ve become such a gadget freak!  The whole layout is different so I guess I’ll have to learn my way around here again!  I just came across an app for WordPress and downloaded it to my iPod , so I guess I have the App Store to thank for getting back on here!  I’ll have to tell my friends about my blogging so at least someone may read my blog!!!  See you soon.

TREE JACKET UPDATE

Posted by: purlygirls on: April 1, 2008

My birthday came and went without a finished sweater!  I did finish the one sleeve Sunday night.  It’s now Tuesday night and I still haven’t started the other sleeve.    My life’s been a little busy lately, since my whole house has  been sick since Easter.  My baby Raquel and my hubby are still under the weather.  Does anyone know if sick babies get wired at night time?  It’s 10:00 pm and Raquel is not sleeping!  Usually she goes to bed between 8 and 8:30, but since she’s been sick, with just a cold, she’s been up.  Now you know this is cutting into my few hours of kids free.  We’re watching Enchanted because I’m tired of Caliou, Pippi Longstocking  and the Wiggles.

I forgot about my excitement with my new computer.  The Saturday before Easter I got a beautiful MacBook and an iPod (which I’ve been wanting for about a year)!  Last night I played with the iPod and I’m waiting to Saturday for my one to one to get my pictures on here.  So I’m sorry there’s no pictures with this post.  For me, I love to see pictures and big writing.    Oh, another thing I’ve been really busy with is my new love, Blythe dolls!  I will definitely be posting some pictures of my “girls” once I learn how to.  I have been spending a lot of my free time on This is Blythe (TIB) which is the Blythe forum instead of knitting.

Tree Jacket

Wow, I can’t believe I haven’t written anything since last year!   Anyway, I started this Tree Jacket from Zephyr Style back in November and didn’t pick it up again until January!  You know how knitters are, well I should say most knitters, are always ready to cast on another project before finishing the other 10 or more they have going.  I decided that I wanted to have this sweater done for my birthday which is March 27th.  Well as of today, I ripped the sleeve out to 4″, when I was originally at 8″!  What can I say but UGH!!!  Mostly everyone on Ravelry said the sleeves were too big.  Oh well,  maybe I can have it done by next week, we’ll see.  Here’s a few more pictures of the sweater.

Tree Jacket

The neck looks pretty good. The picture’s not great, but I’m happy with the neck. I used Cascade 220 Superwash. I love the color, but I’m not crazy about the feel of the yarn. The color was haunting me at every time I went to Sophie’s.  When I found this pattern I had an excuse to buy this yarn.

Here’s a photo of the left sleeve. It reminds me of something I’ve seen Grace Jones wearing back in the 80’s!

Well, I’m off to take my beauties to Tunnels of Fun!!

BLOGSVILLE

I can’t believe it’s been 2 months since my last post!  The holidays came so fast for me this year.  I baked the usual cookies, well, let me fess up, my husband is the baker.  Anyway, he baked the usual cookies, but we didn’t give any away because Christmas came so fast.  I just don’t know what happened this year???

I haven’t knitted for about 2 weeks, but did manage to buy 2 knitting books from Amazon, Greetings from Knit Cafe and A Treasury of Rowan Knits.  And I finally bought Rowan Studio Issue 2.  I want to do The Sweater Dress Vali.  I think it’s a great knit.

Yesterday, I did get to buy some yarn online.  Thanks to my friend Sharon Rod I just ordered some yarn from jimmybeanswool.  Sharon and I are going to do the Erin together.

Today I sent my husband to my LYS Loopto pick up some Tilli Tomas so I can make that gorgeous Mac and Me Dress  Silk Summer Dress (#085).  I was soo bad.  I called Loop and asked which light colors they had, bought the 4 that they had left (only needed 3), gave them the credit card.  I also asked them to put the receipt inside the ball of yarn just in case my husband checked the receipt, because I had him pick it up on his way home because I’m sick and couldn’t wait to go myself to pick it up.  Hey, Tis the Season.  I’ve been wanting to buy this yarn for a while and now is the time to buy it, since I’m already in spending mode.

Well, I hope to get back in the knit of things and get some pictures up on my blog.  I don’t think anybody is really reading my blog, but just in case, a blog is always better with pictures!

If anyone is reading, hope you had a knitalicious holiday season!!!!

T Bar and Water for Elephants

We FINALLY met for our book club.  There’s 6 in our group, but only Valerie, Sharon and myself were able to make it.   Valerie and Sharon lovedthe book and I’m still wondering why it’s still a number one read for book clubs.  Now we’re reading The Memory Keeper’s Daughter and like this author’s writing better and I’ve only read 1 or 2 chapters.

Anyway, for all you Philly Knitters, you need to check out the T Bar on 12th & Sansom.  It’s a gorgeous little tea room and they have a delicious turkey and brie pannini with a fig spread and their peppermint latte is great!!  Here’s a picture of the owners, they’re sisters, Julia and Susan and they’re soo nice.

It’s a great place to hang out and get your knit on!!

HOODED CAPELET

Posted by: purlygirls on: October 21, 2007

Wow, it feels like forever since I’ve blogged!  Well October 7th I finished the Hooded Capelet.  Aren’t the colors gorgeous!

img_0667.jpg

My only problem is that it’s not very functional for me.  After doing this, I realize that I like things with arms!  Jen’s going to help me reconstruct the arms.

img_0666.jpg

Hopefully I will get it done so I can wear it this season. The way this weather’s been I think we’re going to go right into winter, so I guess I may be able to wear it early spring?  Who knows?!?!

HONEYDEW

It’s been 2  weeks since my last post.  I’ve been very busy helping my friend, Sharon Rod, get her store together.  She opened Honeydew Boutique in the back of her friend’s hair salon (Jason Matthew Hair Salon) in Center City.  She’s in such a great location for Philly.  If any of you Philly Knitters get a chance you should stop by and see the boutique.  She’s at 1426 Walnut Street, 3rd Floor.  She’s between Eckerd Drugs, which I think is becoming a Rite Aid and the soap store Lush.  I believe her hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 10 to 6.  It takes a lot of everything to open a store.  We’re waiting for the phone to be hooked up, (the number is 215-545-0727), flyer’s to go up in coffee houses, there was a credit card machine issue, just to name a few.

The boutique is a little hidden treasure with a booty full of things you don’t see anywhere else. She has bags made from recyclable paper, leather, gorgeous fabric, unique jewelry, handmade accessories, vintage pieces, great cards, candles, journals, notepads, phone books, socks and the best lip gloss.

Her boyfriend Tom is also very creative and made the cut out in the wall and built all the shelves.

I wish them the best in this new venture!

CHUNKY CABLE HAT AND SAARTJE’S BOOTEES

I was finally able to take a few photos of the cable hat I made for a gift. I love this Great Adirondack yarn for these baby hats! I have Raquel modeling for me. I think she really think she likes the hat. I have to make 3 more for people and then I’ll make hers. I better go to Sophie’s and get the yarn before it’s gone.

Doesn’t Raquel look cute! She’s having a ball modeling the hat!

Now here are some photos of my bootees.  I have absolutely no idea why one bootee is bigger than the other.  They were both done on a size 3 needle.  The first bootee I made I used a 2 and that was too small!

I am very proud of myself for sewing the buttons and sewing up the bottom. I’ve never sewn a button before! Now I guess I’ll have to do my husband’s buttons!

BLOGGING FRUSTRATION

Posted by: purlygirls on: September 6, 2007

I just joined the Philly Knitters web ring, and as you can see the picture does not show up.  I am so frustrated with navigating my way around.  I need a blog for dummies course!!!  I know what I want for my header, but don’t know how to find it; I finally had the courage to join a “ring” and add something to my sidebar and I can’t.  If anyone out there in blogland can offer me some help, advice, or any words of encourgement, please do so!  I’ve contacted 2 people about their headers, asking where I could find something like their’s, and received no response.  I’ve contacted a woman who designs for websites, and she never got back to me.  And last week I contacted a guy who my friend referred me to, and he didn’t get back to me.  I could see the 2 people I contacted about their headers not getting back to me because maybe that don’t want someone else to have their type of  header, but the woman who designs for money and my friend’s friend, I don’t understand!!!

As far as knitting goes, I am out of control.  This morning I made a list of what I have on the needles and when I casted on.  I’m ashamed to say that I have 6 projects on the needles.  Here’s my list:

  1. Manos Blanket – first block casted on 7/14/07.  Third block started 8/19/07
  2. Baby Denim Pants – 8/25/07
  3. William’s Scarf – 8/31/07
  4. Raquel’s Cardigan – 9/1/07
  5. Baby Cable Hat – 9/3/07
  6. Rod’s Scarf – 9/6/07

My capelet is now almost finished.  I needed to bind off on size 19 needles, so I’m ripping out the bind out and am going to finish up the rest of the yarn to make it a little longer.  I think I’m going to love the capelet.  I can see me using it as a car coat.

I’m afraid to make a list of all the projects waiting in the wings.  I am seriously considering starting a Yarnalolichs Annonymous Group.  If I see a destashing group for 2008 I will probably join.

I’m still on chapter 14 of my Water for Elephants.  My book club is meeting on the 16th of this month and the book is about a week overdue.  I’ve got to pick it up and dedicate at least 1 night to trying to finish it.  I think maybe tomorrow night I’ll try to finish it.  We’re going to Atlantic City tomorrow night so maybe I’ll read on the drive down and after the girls are asleep I’ll read!!!  I know that I’m going to want to knit instead, but I have to get this book done.

GORGEOUS CHUNKY CABLE HAT

I recently bought this gorgeous Colinette Point 5 yarn in carmel and made the Super Chunky Cable Hat.  It’s a house pattern of Sophie’s Yarns.   My daughter Sarina has blue eyes and her favorite color, for now, is blue so I have a lot of photos of her modeling her new hat:
